Walther Vera (Kino)

Director, Scriptwriter, and Researcher.

I started my academic studies at IPP (Instituto Peruano de Publicidad). with advertisement studies; with the unfinished studies, I moved to Madrid, Spain in 2002 to start my audiovisual career. In this city, I learned about documentaries and anthropological films, and developed my first short documentaries around Europe.

In 2007, Ibermedia Fund selected me to start a specialization in direction of documentaries at NIC School (Film Institute of Madrid). This new knowledge allowed me to participate in emblematic Film Festivals in Spain and Latvia. In 2009 the Documentary Insitute of Barcelona CEDOC granted me a scholarship to study a specialization in Author Cinema in Barcelona. In this city, I wrote the first script for a future documentary about my family; this script was selected for a Film Laboratory in Bolivia, The Bolivia Lab. One more time, Ibermedia Fund granted me tickets and covered the expenses in La Paz for two weeks.

Since then, I moved around different countries and I worked on different audiovisual projects; at the same time, I participated in film festivals and film laboratories around the world trying to raise funds for the documentary about the traditions of my family.

In 2015 I founded Kinovera Films and started to produce films, advertisements, and TV shows in Latin America and in the US. During this new professional stage, I produced documentaries for France 0, Telemundo, Cox TV, and institutions like Montclair State University. I decided to work on projects that help minorities and fight for our rights and social issues, some works I produced are The Children of Katrina directed by Hichan Ayouch, El Mirador de Kino TV show, Ruta 10, NJ Balance short documentaries, Winds of Change, 4 Lives, living a lo Cubano, and more.

Actually, I am based in New Jersey, and I am completing two feature documentaries, one in Poland, and the second one in this state; furthermore, I have a special connection with Montclair State University, an institution where I am developing interesting projects, researches, and also, collaborating with stunning professors and academic departments.
